Valluvar Kottam Monument - Main
Overview

Located in the heart of Chennai, Valluvar Kottam is a striking memorial dedicated to the revered Tamil poet-saint Thiruvalluvar, author of the timeless classic Thirukkural. Designed in the form of a grand 39-metre-high temple chariot, the monument stands on what was once a lakebed and remains one of the city’s most distinctive landmarks. The complex houses a life-sized stone statue of Thiruvalluvar and a vast pillar-less auditorium seating over 4,000 people. All 1,330 verses of the Thirukkural are engraved on granite panels along the corridors, turning the space into an open-air literary gallery. Recently renovated, the premises now include upgraded restrooms, picnic areas, a cafeteria, a bookstore, and evening light-and-sound shows — making it both a cultural landmark and a relaxed outing spot for families. Valluvar Kottam memorial monument is open to the public every day. It remains open from 10 AM to 8 PM. Valluvar Kottam entrance fee is ₹10 (for adults) and ₹5 (for kids).
